: Think back to when you were 10 and you first signed on to this gig. Whether he will or not is another question.
I think Shane has the potential to kill again. : Do you think Shane is capable of killing again? Or was Pilar's death an isolated incident? He figures if he can't beat 'em, he'll join 'em. Then he started almost siding with them and then he got shot. There's a point early in the season when he was saying that the people in the drug cartel are monsters and that they need to be careful. In Season 5, he kind of broke when he got shot. I think we have progressively seen Shane get darker and more violent. : Shane used to be very morally judgmental of his mother. I haven't, but I have talked a little bit about Shane being like Dexter. I was really nervous I was going to hurt. I thought it was cool, but it was also tough because I'm not a violent person. So when I got the last couple pages of the script, I was surprised to even be in the scene. Most seasons we don't get the end of the script, so nobody knows what's going to happen so we can't tell anybody. Whether Dexter: New Blood turns out to be good or not, it’s certainly great to see Dexter : What was your reaction when you found out that Shane was going to kill somebody?

They tried a script with the showrunner who took my place, but that didn’t work out. Hall would be interviewed and somebody would ask, “Are you gonna go back to Dexter?” He’d say, “I’m not sure, but I’m not closing the door.” And then somebody would send me that interview and I’d call him and we’d talk about it. It had always been in the groundwater that maybe there was going to be an attempt to do something about it. Since it ended? Look, it’s no surprise that many people were disappointed with the ending of season 8, which I was not involved in.
